A Prayer
My grandma recently passed away a couple of weeks ago in India. It happend all of a sudden and considering I'm in America, I didn't go to her funeral in India. To pay our respects, we held a prayer at my house today. The prayer is customary when someone passes away and lasts about three hours. At the end of the prayer, there is a religious serving of this sweet dish. It is called prasad. Prasad is also served at my holy temple, the Gurdwara. I really needed this prayer because it was my way of letting go. I realized that these prayers are nourishing and there is a reason why I was taught to pray. Praying simply adds to my cultural experience and allows me to gain some peace.
